WriteOut! Writing Retreats
WriteOut! is a week-long writing retreat for UIC doctoral students or UIC faculty from all disciplines who study race and/or ethnicity. The retreat offers daily accountability meetings and support from a writing coach, food throughout the day, printing and copying, and workshops to further your writing practice. The workshop is free to those who complete the retreat.
Each year we offer two WriteOut retreats in the summer for both faculty and graduate students and we offer a 3-day writing workshop for both faculty and graduate students in January before the Spring semester begins.
What to Expect
WriteOut! is held at our office, whose spaces are perfect for every writing style. Our conference room offers a quiet space to write while our open lounge offers both single desks and communal tables with lots of natural light.
Faculty and graduate students should bring their laptop, lunch on days we aren’t providing one, and any materials needed in order to write. Through the week, we provide:
- A light but energizing breakfast each day
- A communal lunch 2-3 times a week
- UIC wireless internet access
- Printing and copying privileges
- Various workshops to help the writing and publication process
Moreover, to maintain the momentum from WriteOut!, IRRPP offices are open throughout the year for Write-On-Site sessions for faculty and students who wish to continue coming together to write in a supportive environment.
