Writing Retreat for UIC Faculty, Postdocs, and Staff
WriteOut! is open to all UIC faculty, postdocs, and staff from UIC whose research focuses on the study of race and/or ethnicity. The retreat offers scholars support and structure for their writing and a focused time to concentrate solely on their writing practice. During this short but intense retreat, faculty say that they are very productive, benefiting greatly from this concentrated time devoted to furthering their writing practice. WriteOut! retreats increase faculty capacity, build intellectual density, and grow an intellectual community on campus by providing scholars with time and skills they need to do the crucial work of challenging social inequality.

About Faculty WriteOut! Heading link
Each Faculty WriteOut! retreat runs Monday through Friday, typically from 9am to 3pm/4pm. If you have a hard time finding time to write, this retreat will give you the chance to focus on your project for an extended period of time with the support of your fellow faculty and postdocs in a structured environment.
We plan to provide flexibility as we also provide a space for accountability. We understand that people are doing even more care work at home and would like to be able to support participants in their writing practices as best we can.
Research shows that writers are more productive when they set goals, monitor their work, and check in with another person. We offer some meetings with a writing coach, skill-building workshops so that you will leave the retreat with a better grasp of your strengths and weaknesses as a writer and a set of strategies to help you move past writing barriers.

IRRPP offers two faculty WriteOut! retreats each year: 1 in May and and 1 in July. Since 2021, we have hosted the retreats using a hybrid format.
Registration for the retreats take place around late February/ early March each year. We inform faculty and postdocs when registration is open through multiple listservs and on our website. To receive information about WriteOut! please sign up for the IRRPP listserv.
Registration is open first to IRRPP faculty fellows and then applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
