Summer Institute for Teachers

When: Tuesday - Wednesday, June 28 - 29, 2016

IRRPP has held a series of planning meetings throughout this academic year to develop and pilot a Summer Institute for Teachers which will take place on June 28th and 29th. The goal of the Summer Institute for Teachers is to develop a leadership cadre of social justice educators in the city of Chicago who are equipped with cutting edge knowledge and effective pedagogical tools about racial and ethnic dynamics in schools and society. The institute is intended to provide teachers with time to reflect on their practice, new tools for their work, and a community of colleagues to support innovative teaching. This group of teacher leaders/teacher scholars will be able to bring this new knowledge and skills into their classrooms and schools to further the process of institutional and community development. This institute will continue to deepen IRRPP’s and UIC’s connections to the local community, provide a vehicle to put cutting edge research to work to improve educational opportunities, and increase UIC’s visibility in Chicago.
